Faculty Appointments

Yale faculty who join the Institute are united in their research interests related to understanding human cognition and exploring human potential. Members come from departments and schools across the university. Members benefit from access to funding opportunities, special interdisciplinary events, and enhanced opportunities to meet researchers from across Yale. We invite applications from faculty in any Yale department or school (e.g., FAS, SEAS, YSM) with scholarly interests related to the mind and brain and whose appointment enables graduate advising.

What privileges do members gain?

  • Voice in shaping scientific direction and programs
  • Newsletters and other regular updates
  • Promotion on WTI website and social media
  • Priority for space-limited symposia, workshops, and retreats
  • Ability to organize workshops and invite visitors
  • Invitation to social events and enrichment activities
  • Support from administrative and technical WTI staff
  • Language and materials for grant applications
  • WTI-branded stationary, templates, and swag

*Not all funding opportunities will be restricted to members

What is expected of members?

Put simply, adhering to our code of conduct and being active in the WTI community. This could include, for example:

  • Serving on committees or working groups
  • Attending talks and events regularly
  • Hosting or speaking at seminars or workshops
  • Participating in programs, collaborations, or challenges
  • Mentoring students, postdocs, or junior colleagues
  • Outreach at conferences, with donors, in the media
  • Providing regular feedback on initiatives
  • Assisting with faculty hiring and other recruitment

Members are encouraged to list WTI as an author affiliation in conference and journal submissions, in talks, in email signatures, etc. (as "Wu Tsai Institute, Yale University").

Calls for new members occur throughout the year. To apply, faculty complete a request form and agree to our code of conduct. Appointments begin at regular intervals and last three years. The term is renewable to continue engagement with WTI research, activities, and programs from the previous period.

Type of information requested on application form:

  • Name, netID, and contact information
  • Degrees, title, and department(s)
  • Portrait photo
  • Online presence (website, social media, IDs)
  • Research description (and how it is connected to WTI’s themes)
  • Keywords (topics, methods, species)
  • Courses taught regularly
  • Yale collaborators
  • Desired center affiliations (indicate interest in one or more WTI centers)
  • Areas of interest that connect with WTI
