Data-driven understanding of complex systems

Zongming Ma is broadly interested in network and multi-modal data. One of his current research foci is modeling, integrating, and analyzing spatial and single-cell multi-omics data using statistical, machine learning, and deep learning approaches. This includes data collected from human brains. A better understanding of the human brain from a bio-molecular perspective has the potential to enrich our knowledge of brain development, functionality, and disorder.

Biography

Zongming Ma joined Yale as a Professor of Statistics and Data Science in 2023. With an interest in statistical theory and practice, he currently focuses on developing new theories and methodologies for multi-modal and network data analyses and designing new integration and analysis pipelines for spatial and single-cell data. Before joining Yale, Ma was an associate professor in the Department of Statistics and Data Science at the University of Pennsylvania. He received his BS in Mathematics from Peking University and his PhD in Statistics from Stanford University. He enjoys cooking and hiking in his spare time.
