Diversity, Equity + Inclusion

Vital to the Wu Tsai Institute’s mission is welcoming diverse minds and creating equitable access to programs and resources to build an inclusive neuroscience community. Our initiatives and opportunities strive for broad representations of viewpoints and expertise. Together, we envision the vast possibilities for the future of understanding cognition.

Our undergraduate, graduate, and postdoc initiatives serve as on-ramps for young and established scientists to become members of our community. As part of our efforts to support a healthy and productive research environment, we welcome researchers with scientific promise and excellence as well as meaningful contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). The Institute attracts scientists from across computational, psychological, and biological sciences under a common mission to understand human cognition.

When selecting committee members for review, hiring, or evaluation, we strive for diversity in scientific discipline, gender, ethnicity, and seniority. We train members on ways of assessing scientific and DEI excellence and mitigating bias.

We examine fairness of process and equality of outcomes when distributing resources, support, and opportunities to Institute members.

Dedicated staff drive program design, execution, and evaluation to align with best and emerging practices in inclusive science.

All our initiatives are broadly disseminated through varied channels and approaches. Positions are posted on e-boards, listservs, and job forums that are broadly accessible, as well as those responsive to women and scientists of color.

We engage in activities to make science more accessible and informed by the surrounding communities we serve. We lead with dignity, treating each other and our research subjects as humans, seeking ways to expand the populations benefitted by our research. This translates to welcoming, comfortable, and educational spaces for visitors, subjects, and members of the public.
