Learning interpretable models of complex dynamical systems with graph neural networks
WTI Special Seminar: Stephan Saalfeld
Tuesday, May 12, 2026
10:00 - 11:15 am
100 College Street
Floor 11 Workshop
The Wu Tsai Institute’s Center for Neurodevelopment and Plasticity and the Center for Neurocomputation and Machine Intelligence present Stephan Saalfeld, Senior Group Leader and Head of Computation and Theory, HHMI Janelia Research Campus.
Saalfeld is a computational neuroscientist interested in deconstructing and emulating circuit motifs from brain connectomes. His research focuses on reconstructing high-resolution biological nervous systems, such as the Drosophila (fruit fly) brain, to map neural connections. He holds leadership roles at HHMI Janelia, an institute primarily dedicated to understanding how neural circuits process information and store memories. Saalfeld is a co-leader of the AI@HHMI initiative with Erin O’Shea and Nelson Spruston. He will be hosted by Daniel Colón-Ramos and John Lafferty.
