Laurie Paul, PhD

My main research interests are in metaphysics and epistemology, focused on the way central philosophical questions about the self in the world can be informed by neuroscience, AI, and computational cognitive science. In my work, I explore questions about the way the brain builds our sense of who we are through building mental representations of ourselves as embedded in time and in space and as agents. I extend this work to formal applications in decision theory, modality, and causation, with related work in ethics and practical reasoning.
