Diversity, Equity + Inclusion
Vital to the Wu Tsai Institute’s mission is welcoming diverse minds and creating equitable access to programs and resources to build an inclusive neuroscience community. Our programs and opportunities strive for broad representations of viewpoints and expertise. Join us.
Our undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral programs directly address underrepresentation and inequities in science and serve as on-ramps for young and established scientists to become members of our community and field.
Meaningful contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are required across positions and programs. Candidate evaluation rubrics include DEI criteria to help assess and prioritize candidates.
When selecting review, hiring, or evaluation committees, we strive for diversity in gender, ethnicity, and seniority, and we train members on ways of assessing DEI excellence and mitigating bias.
Distribution of resources, support, and opportunities to Institute members are examined for fairness of process and equality of outcomes.
Our Assistant Director for DEI drives program design, execution, and evaluation to align with best and emerging practices in inclusive science.
All our initiatives are broadly disseminated through varied channels and approaches. Positions are posted on e-boards, listservs, and job forums responsive to women and scientists of color, with additional outreach to individual candidates from traditionally underrepresented groups.
We engage in activities to make science more accessible and informed by the surrounding communities we serve. We lead with dignity, treating each other and our research subjects as humans, seeking ways to expand the populations benefitted by our research. This translates to welcoming, comfortable, and educational spaces for visitors, subjects, and members of the public.
